365 Days of Belle
More visitors today! :) Belle woke up for a few minutes to say hi and play outside at the end of their visit. Otherwise, she basically sleeps…yeah, all the time. We captured a picture of her sleeping in her superman pose tonight…funny girl. Oh, big news of the day…she actually went to the door and whined to go outside twice! Yay…we like housebreaking progress!
Big news! After a few sleepless nights, we tried a bigger crate last night. Belle seemed much happier and then(gasp!)…in the middle of the day, mosied on in of her own free will and, in yet another moment of cuteness, cuddled her giant care bear. Photo-worthy! :)
Belle enjoyed her first nap by the fireplace. She slept most of her day away, actually…probably because, at this point, she’s not really thrilled with her crate at night. *yawn
However, she had an extended period of awake time tonight; and we just had to post this funny picture of her playing while lying on her back. She reminds us of a little bear cub…and she’s getting more playful and showing more personality every day. Plus, we swear she has already grown! <3 our little Belle…and really don’t want to leave her to go back to work and school tomorrow. :(
We <3 visitors! :) Rachel, Maddi, and Allie got to meet Belle for the first time; and Joel got to see her once more before he goes back to school tomorrow. (Have a safe trip, Joel!)

January 1, 2012…Happy New Year!
Today, little miss Belle decided that chewing is a pretty great idea. She found a stick in the yard, the corner of our living room rug, the metal legs of our coffee table; and our fingers and toes. Since we want her to be a well-behaved big dog that everybody likes to be with, we just have to say “no” (despite that adorable little face) and distract her with her pink and purple chew toy. Seems to do the trick for now, anyway.
She is participating in this housebreaking thing like a champ! No messes inside during the day, possibly because we take her out at every whimper…and then some. :) Hypervigilance is our method!
Speaking of outside, she loves it! Running around with Caiti, chasing a stray leaf, exploring…can’t get enough of it! After a few minutes, though, she has to come in and take a good, long nap.
All in all, she perked up quite a bit today and seems to be adjusting to leaving her brothers and sisters (and not having them to sleep on). She certainly has gotten enough hugs and kisses to know that she is absolutely adored already! <3
A spark of personality emerges…she seems to think it’s pretty great outside. Running around for the first time. Chasing Caiti. Otherwise, so far…Belle has been super chill.
I guess the 365 day idea should start the first day of the new year; but this is Belle’s first official day with us. She became part of our family at 5:15 p.m. today, Friday, December 30, 2011. <3 at first sight! Her mom is a Newfoundland; and her dad is a St. Bernard; so she won’t stay tiny for long! Our adventure is just beginning. I guess we’ll call this an intro…
